“Welcome to the first episode of Against the Norm—a podcast for men who are tired of sitting on their asses and ready to get their sh*t together. I’m Norman Calvo, and I’m here to help you kick excuses to the curb and get your life back on track.
Now, you might be wondering—who the hell is this guy telling me to get off the couch? Let me tell you. I’m not some wannabe Instagram fitness guru. I’m a guy who’s been there, done that, and got the sweaty T-shirt to prove it. I hiked up Half Dome in Yosemite with a 30-pound backpack strapped to me like a f*ckin’ g*d-damn mule. I ran the NYC Marathon—26.2 miles of blood, sweat, and probably too many carbs—and crossed the finish line. And yeah, I’ve tackled 11 half-marathons too, because why stop at one? Oh, and for kicks, I even performed a one-man cabaret show.
But this podcast isn’t about me—it’s about you. It’s about guys like us—men in their 60s, 70s, and beyond—who want to feel alive again, not just like we’re marking time until the end zone. Whether you’re here because your doctor told you to move your ass or because you’re tired of grunting every time you get out of a chair, you’ve come to the right place.
This podcast is your playbook. We’re going to tackle the fears, the excuses, and the bullsh*t stories you’ve been telling yourself about why you can’t get fit or healthy. And don’t worry—this isn’t going to be some kumbaya therapy session. We’ll keep it real, raw, and yes, maybe a little crude. Because sometimes you need a kick in the ass, not a pat on the back.
I’ll also be sharing extra tips, stories, and resources on my blog, which you can check out after the show. And if you’re serious about turning things around, I’m available for one-on-one coaching to help you create a plan that works.
So, stick around. Today’s the day we stop talking about what you ‘used to be able to do’ and start figuring out what you’re still capable of. Spoiler alert: It’s a hell of a lot more than you think.”
